Lady Kitty Spencer becomes Patron for Give Us Time

Give Us Time is thrilled to announce our new Patron, Lady Kitty Spencer, who said: “This role gives me the opportunity to express the utter respect I have for the men and women who serve this country in the armed forces. For military personnel, the family network is the all-important backdrop to their professional lives. ‘Give Us Time’

acknowledges that the entire family makes sacrifices and seeks to nurture this support network. In my opinion, our service personnel and their families truly represent what is best about the United Kingdom. I am in awe of their strength and commitment to our country.

A Wonderful Time At Center Parcs

The Priestman family recently returned from their long weekend break at Center Parcs’ Sherwood Forest and although we don’t think they saw any sign of Robin Hood and his Merry Band of Men, the family seemed to have a good time away!

Center Parcs offers a vast number of activities available as well as a lake with a beach and the forest to explore! The Priestman’s seemed to try most of them – “we enjoyed all of the activities and had time to relax and enjoy all that Center Parcs has to offer – from the swimming pools to the high wires”

Give Us Time joins OSCR

Give Us Time is pleased to announce that we are now a registered charity with the Scottish Charity Regulator (SC048075). The SCR is the independent Regulator and registrar for Scotland’s charities and means that Give Us Time now has charitable status under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

“Spend time with your loved ones, while you still can”

Thanks to a generous donation from the Hotel Savoia and Jolanda, three families had the chance to enjoy a respite break in the stunning city of Venice, Italy. They even took the time to talk with us about their experiences.

The families had different backgrounds, but all were in need of quality time away to reconnect as a family unit. James, 10, said this “was the best holiday of his life” and couldn’t wait to tell his friends at school all about it. His parents are both serving in the RAF and it is difficult for him to spend time apart from them, saying what he misses the most when they are away is cuddles.

The grant will go a long way towards funding our essential Operations Manager freeing up resources and enabling us to do more for our beneficiaries. For a small charity covering core costs is a significant challenge and this significant contribution will make a huge difference to all involved.

Give Us Time supporter, Chris Grech, a Maltese National, has been shortlisted for the International Award at the 2018 Soldiering On Awards!

Give Us Time is thrilled that one of its long-time supporters, Chris Grech, has been shortlisted for the International Award, at the Soldiering On Awards, which will be decided in April this Year.

Chris, a Maltese National, has been supporting Give Us Time since 2014, donating accommodation at the Balkan Jewel Resort in Bulgaria to British Service families in need of respite and recuperation.

When Chris Grech heard about the charity Give Us Time, formed to meet the needs of Service families, he offered to run a pilot group holiday: a week at the Balkan Jewel Resort in March 2015.

Service Families’ From Headley Court Benefit From Respite Break

In October Give Us Time sent five families to the amazing Azure Resort in Malta in collaboration with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Center at Headley Court. We are all incredibly grateful to the Azure Resort for this generous donation as one of our family members said “we just want to thank you all again, it is just amazing that there are people out there helping others”.

The feedback from the families has been wonderful: they all had a great break relaxing and reconnecting as well as exploring the island.

“All they want for Christmas is Time” fundraiser

Give Us Time is holding its first bake fundraiser: “All they want for Christmas is Time”.

This will be an opportunity for us not only to raise money for our families, but also to raise awareness on our cause by showing a widespread support from communities.

The bake fundraiser will be held on Friday 8th December.

If you want to support this initiative, all we need you to do is to bake (or buy! We won’t judge you) some biscuits or cakes and hold a fundraiser at your workplace or at home. Invite friends, family or co-workers!

A poem to find peace

A recent email from a family, who benefitted from our services, has highlighted once again how a break away can really help in the recovery process. Glen suffers from PTSD and his respite break at the Heroes Haven Swanage was the chance for him and his family to reconnect after a long period of suffering and hardship.

“Heroes Haven Swanage was a very relaxing location and allowed me to gather my thoughts”, Glen explained, “I even started to write poetry in the gardens as I truly found peace. I have added the poem I wrote in the garden at Heroes Haven.”
