In the run up to Seafarers Awareness Week, 24-30 June, primary school children are learning that bananas are only available in the UK thanks to ships and seafarers.
Seafarers UK, the charity that coordinates and promotes Seafarers Awareness Week, has partnered with leading fruit importer Fyffes to provide free educational resources for 24,000 schools.

Announcing the themes ‘Maritime Jobs at Sea and Ashore’ and ‘Sea Ports for Prosperity’, Seafarers UK has launched this year’s Seafarers Awareness Week campaign, with the focus on promoting maritime career opportunities, both at sea and ashore, including in the UK’s thriving port industry.

On 28 March, exactly 100 years to the day since the first meeting was held in 1917 in the City of London to discuss the formation of the charity (previously known as King George’s Fund for Sailors), Seafarers UK will hold a Centenary Celebration Dinner at Guildhall.
