Local charity to provide accommodation, catering and transport to support leading house builder Persimmon

Finchale welcomes its first cohort of veterans this week, who will be taking advantage of its vast accommodation, catering and transport facilities as part of a wider “Combat to Construction” project that will see 180 individuals supported throughout 2017.

The Combat to Construction Programme is an initiative from leading house builder Persimmon Homes, which aims to deliver jobs by re-training former military personnel to become bricklayers and joiners.

New trauma service for severely injured veterans

NHS England, together with the MOD, BLESMA, Blind Veterans UK and Style for Soldiers, has recently launched the veterans trauma network, which aims to provide specialist care for patients with service related traumatic injuries. The network has been informed by feedback from veterans, their families and GPs who have requested both clinical assurance on the advice and excellence of care and a supportive ‘safety net’ to meet the ongoing health needs of injured military personnel transitioning out of the service and veterans.

Charitable flats for Royal Navy personnel in Portsmouth officially open their doors

A six-figure accommodation project for Armed Forces personnel in Portsmouth has been completed and handed over to the Royal Navy, following years of planning and charitable funding.

The three self-contained family flats, nicknamed, the ‘Navy Mews’, have been constructed within the walls of HMNB Portsmouth (HMS Nelson) for the sole use of Service Personnel on a priority basis.

The project would not have been possible without the support of the Royal Navy’s principal charity, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), which granted £250,000 of its allocation of LIBOR funds to the flats in 2015.

AFF and Manpower offer employability boost to Army spouses and partners

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is proud to announce its latest initiative in support of spousal employment, in partnership with workforce experts Manpower.

The military charity is bringing Army families accessible employability advice and support at a local level with the help of Manpower. Sessions will take place every other Thursday at the Beeches Centre in Bulford, Salisbury, from the 9 February, and will be held during the regular coffee mornings at the centre, which will continue as normal. AFF is keen to make these sessions as inclusive and family friendly as they can and are encouraging those attending to bring their children with them.
