Read moreA grant of a £171,995 has been awarded to the University of Salford, working with the University of York on a two-year project, to examine what impact interaction with the benefit system has on the transition of military personnel to civilian life, thanks to support from the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT).
The two-year study, called Sanctions, support and Service leavers: welfare conditionality and transitions from military to civilian life, will investigate the effect of a conditional welfare system in the UK, including the use of sanctions, and how this affects ex-Service personnel and their families.

Read moreReporter Victoria Smith from SSVC’s Forces Welfare Media Team filmed recently with Rick McGillivray, a veteran helped out of homelessness by E-FAN, a Covenant-funded project run by the Defence Medical Welfare Service and the Cheshire & Greater Manchester Rehabilitation Company. Rick fondly remembers his Army career but no longer has any photos from the time. The Welfare Team helped him to appeal on social media and they’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thanks to the video, Rick has been sent messages of support by friends he made in the Army and at school, as well as a number of photos.
