The Duke of York attends Broughton House Centenary Service

The Duke of York has attended a service which celebrated the centenary of Broughton House, the Salford home for ex-servicemen and women.

The Duke attended the service at Manchester Cathedral in his role as patron of Broughton House, and read a lesson from the Gospel of St Matthew.

More than 800 people from across the region were at the event, including Warren Smith, the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, civic dignitaries and representatives from the Ministry of Defence and service charities.

This year, military charity the Army Families Federation (AFF) is celebrating 35 years of support for Army families.

Since its inception as the Federation of Army Wives Clubs back in 1982, AFF has evolved into a worldwide charity, working on behalf of all Army families – Regular and Reserve, wherever they are based, whatever their family make-up.

Bear Grylls celebrates 10 years of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity with a competition to win an exclusive once in a lifetime experience

International adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls is offering two lucky fans the opportunity of a lifetime to help mark the 10th birthday of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. The competition winner and a friend will take part in an official Bear Grylls Survival Course in Wales, catching wild game and foraging for food, learning core survival skills and sleeping out under the stars in a shelter they have built themselves.

Mission Motorsport – 5th Anniversary

In 2017, Mission Motorsport is celebrating its 5th Anniversary. The Forces’ Motorsport Charity was launched at Thruxton Motor Circuit in 2012 in order to help those affected by military operations by engagement through sport. Since its inception, the charity has seen impressive growth, and has delivered over 3000 training days of sport for over 850 beneficiaries, leading to over 200 placements, and nearly 90 jobs.

Maritime Charity Celebrates Centenary at London Guildhall Dinner

The leading maritime charity, Seafarers UK, is holding its Centenary Dinner at Guildhall this evening, exactly 100 years to the day since the first meeting was held in 1917 in the City of London to discuss the formation of the charity (previously known as King George’s Fund for Sailors).

Almost 300 guests will attend a formal Reception and Dinner in Guildhall to mark the occasion. Celebrated guests will include HRH The Earl of Wessex (President of the charity since 2012, when he succeeded The Duke of Edinburgh), Admiral of The Fleet The Lord Boyce, Admiral The Lord West of Spithead and the First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones.
