NAVCA: a bitesize brief on the Fundraising Regulator for smaller charities

If you qualify as a ‘smaller charity’ you can register directly with the Fundraising Regulator for a fee of £50, rather than being subject to the levy applied to those who spend over £100k pa.

After a recent round-table event the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) put together a bite-sized briefing note.

The main point to be aware of is that whilst registration with the Regulator is voluntary, compliance with the Code and the Regulations it embodies is not, no matter how small a charity’s annual spend on fundraising OR their annual income overall.

PTSD Resolution Joins Cobseo

Armed Forces’ Veterans mental health charity PTSD Resolution has joined Cobseo, the Confederation of Service Charities, which provides a single point of contact for communication by Forces’ charities with Government and other organisations.

Colonel Tony Gauvain (Retired), Chairman of PTSD Resolution says:

Forces in Mind Trust appoints Amazon PR

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), which works to ensure all ex-Service personnel and their families successfully transition to civilian life, has appointed Amazon PR to provide strategic communications and influencing services following a competitive tender.

Established in 2012 with a £35 million endowment from the Big Lottery Fund, FiMT awards grants, commissions research and supports projects that deliver long-term solutions to the challenges faced by the Armed Forces Community.

Third Sector reveals SSAFA as highest climbing military charity in Charity Brand Index

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been unveiled as the third highest overall climber in the latest Charity Brand Index report, published by Third Sector.

The annual report determines which charities the general public are most aware of, which they intend to support and also measures trust levels. More than 4,000 UK adults were polled between June and August in 2017 to pull the data together.

Commission receives annual £5m interim funding boost

The Charity Commission publishes update on current and future funding model

The Charity Commission has been awarded funding from the Government of £5 million per year to help it respond to significant increases in demand on its core regulatory functions, including registration and compliance.

This funding has been awarded as a interim solution, while the Commission considers longer term, more sustainable funding models.

Detailed guide: Automatic disqualification rules for charity trustees and charity senior positions

This guidance is for individuals who want to find out if, and how the automatic disqualification rules apply to them. We have produced separate guidance for charities to help them prepare for the new rules.

The rules, which currently only apply to trustees, protect charities from being run by people who meet certain criteria or who have specific unspent convictions.

From 1 August 2018, changes to the rules mean there will be more restrictions on who can run a charity.

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity to deliver the Mayor of London’s programme to support veterans into employment

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity will work with Team London, the Mayor of London’s volunteering programme, to deliver Forces for London. This new initiative is co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Mayor of London to increase the employment rate of veterans in London.

Many veterans struggle to find a job after their military service. By 2020, Forces for London will support 200 veterans who face such barriers, all of whom will receive mentoring support, with 190 completing volunteering, and more than 120 securing meaningful sustained employment, training or education.

Deptherapy is pleased to announce a new Patron

Major General Paul Nanson CBE, Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst has accepted an invitation from Deptherapy’s President Air Vice Marshal Jon Lamonte to join the Deptherapy team as a Patron. General Nanson is a scuba diver and kindly attended the Deptherapy Awards ceremony in October where with Air Vice Marshal Paul Colley he presented the awards.
