Navy blind veteran thrilled to be spending Christmas with fellow comrades thanks to national charity

Mike Saunders, 75, from Lowestoft, will spend the festive period with other vision-impaired ex-Service men and women at Blind Veterans UK’s Llandudno centre. Every year the charity invites beneficiaries who would otherwise have been alone at Christmas, like Mike, to spend the week at one of the charity’s training and rehabilitation centres.

Mike says: “It’s going to be great to spend Christmas with Blind Veterans UK. The staff seem to have a sixth sense because they always know what you need – they’re incredibly helpful and kind.”

Christmas cheer for SSAFA veterans, thanks to ESS

Special festive lunch donated to military community in Southend

Christmas came early today for members of the SSAFA Veteran’s Lunch Club. Professional chefs armed with roast turkey and all of the trimmings descended to serve up a large helping of seasonal goodwill. The Lunch Club welcomed over 60 veterans in for the special event, making it a real calendar highlight.

In the true spirit of Christmas, the entire meal was donated by ESS, Support Services Worldwide, part of Compass Group, to say thank you for their service to our nation.

Veterans and toddlers share festive fun

With Christmas just around the corner, disabled veterans at The Royal Star & Garter Homes welcomed babies and toddlers to a fun-filled, Christmas themed multi-sensory class held at the Charity’s Solihull Home. Residents were invited to join in the festive fun alongside the youngsters. The class was run by Hartbeeps, as part of an ongoing partnership between the Solihull Home and the local group to help bring generations together.

Update from Supporting Wounded Veterans

LIBOR: SWV are extremely grateful to the LIBOR fund for granting them their full funding application for £1,054,800. The grant will finance their Pain Management Programme for a further three years.

SWV Ski Week: SWV have now completed their Veteran interviews for their 2018 Ski Week, and have selected 26 Veterans (out of 180 applications) to join their Skihabiliation programme next March.

Carol Concert: On 4th December, SWV held their first Carol Concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Sq. With over 500 tickets sold and a waiting list of over 100, they are happy to announce that this will now become an annual event.

Christmas Bazaar raises over £4,000 for disabled veterans

Worthing-based charity, Care for Veterans, held its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 2 December, and the event raised a fantastic total of £4,200!

More than 300 visitors browsed the various craft stalls at the Christmas market as they enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies, while listening to carols sung by the Mid Sussex Choir. Children won lots of prizes on the teddy tombola, visited Santa in his grotto, and The Owls About Town even made a special appearance, which was enjoyed by visitors and Care for Veterans’ residents.

7th and 19th December – Sing yourself into a festive cheer with local military charity (Colwyn Bay)

Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local residents to exercise their vocal chords and enter the festive swing with a number of carol singing sessions at the Bay View centre.

Suzanne Evanson, Blind Veterans UK Regional Fundraising Assistant, says: “We are looking for members of the public to join us on both December 7 and December 19 – you don’t have to be a choir member, or even the world’s best singer! All you need is enthusiasm and a smile!

15th December – Liverpool – Join local military charity for festive morning of coffee and carols 

A military charity is inviting local residents for a festive morning of coffee and carols.

On Friday 15 December, Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, will be hosting an event at St. George’s Hall Liverpool.

Guests in attendance will be given the opportunity to indulge in carols and minced pies, and even peruse and buy the selection of beautiful Christmas gifts. For those who do find that perfect gift for their loved one, there’ll be a member of staff on hand to wrap their newly purchased gifts, all against an idyllic backdrop of traditional carols, as performed by students from local school, St. Vincent’s.

8th December – Llandudno – Join local military charity for evening of Christmas carols 

A military charity is inviting local residents for an evening of Christmas Carols.

On Friday 8 December, Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, will be hosting an evening of musical entertainment at its training and rehabilitation centre in Llandudno.

Amici Del Canto, the award-winning Chamber Choir, will be visiting the centre for the second time this year, having previously performed the opera King Arthur to blind veterans and local residents alike.
