AFF celebrates visa success on behalf of F&C Army families

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is delighted that after five years of lobbying on their behalf, Foreign & Commonwealth (F&C) Army families should now find the process of applying for a visa to enter the UK much easier and fairer, thanks to the addition of an ‘Armed Forces’ option on the form.

Since 2013, when the new Armed Forces immigration rules came into effect, all non-EEA family members of soldiers wishing to apply for a visa to enter the UK have had to use an online form.

FiMT report reveals more work is needed to support and engage the Armed Forces Commonwealth Community

A new Forces in Mind Trust funded report assessing the services available for, and provided to, Commonwealth serving and ex-Service personnel and their families, was released today, 22 March 2018, and has identified a number of improvements to better focus services for the Armed Forces Commonwealth Community.

Thirteen recommendations are provided in the report to strengthen the strategy to meet the needs of serving and ex-Service personnel and their families from the Commonwealth within a complex and still politically charged society.

New Forces in Mind Trust award: Anglia Ruskin University to research ways of supporting Commonwealth Personnel and families

A grant of £28,664 has been awarded to Anglia Ruskin University, to conduct an audit of services available for, and provided to, Commonwealth serving and ex-Service personnel and their families in order to identify their specific needs. This eight-month study will be an important first step in understanding the issues facing Commonwealth personnel and their families during their transition from military to civilian life.

This is the first time the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has funded a project or research specifically around the Commonwealth cohort serving in the UK Armed Forces, and/or their families, and it has been commissioned jointly with the Cobseo Foreign and Commonwealth (F&C) Cluster.
