Entertaining troops in the Middle East

The British Forces Foundation has just returned from the Middle East having entertained hundreds of troops with morale-boosting comedy shows.

The hugely successful tour kicked off in Minhad (United Arab Emirates) with an outdoor show for more than 250 Brits and members of the Coalition Forces.

The comedy show, which included Britain’s Got Talent’s Jonny Awsum, proved a massive hit with all nationalities in the audience.

A musical with a difference!

A musical is coming to Worthing and entertainment doesn’t get bigger than this. ‘The Grand Rehearsal’ promises to be big fun with music and dancing, where the audience is part of the show – a bit of drama, sing-alongs, dancing and great audience participation!
The show, which will be fun for all the family, will be on at the Emmanuel United Reformed Church, St Michael’s Road, Worthing, on Thursday 22 March at 7.15pm, and then Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March at 4.00pm.

The British Forces Foundation Panto Bus has enjoyed another hugely successful February half-term tour

It means thousands of Armed Forces families have again been entertained for free this winter thanks to those who have so generously supported the initiative.

The BFF Panto Bus has traveled all over the UK – visiting bases from the top of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall, Northern Ireland and Wales – as well as performing for British Armed Forces families in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Cyprus.

In total there were six tours, five different productions, visiting more than 60 locations. Audience sizes ranged from 60 to 400plus – the figure averaging out at almost 150 people a show.

Army Lance Corporal and Magician Takes His Magic Tour to Kabul, Giving A Morale Boost to Those Serving in Afghanistan

Forces Live Events (CSE), experts in the organisation of bespoke live entertainment events for the Armed Forces, have just returned from a magical trip to Afghanistan with Lance Corporal Richard Jones – the first and only magician to ever win Britain’s Got Talent.

Supported by fellow magician, Daniel Boyles, Richard toured his magic show around various bases in Kabul.

Live and Let Dine with local sight loss charity at Bond-themed Murder Mystery

Blind Veterans UK, a local charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local residents to join them for a Bond-themed Murder Mystery dinner that promises to leave guests both shaken and stirred.

The evening, titled The Spy Who Killed Me, has been written by A Play Fitted Theatre Company. The event will take place on Friday 13 April at Chateau Rhianfa, Menai Bridge.

Victoria Beech, Regional Fundraiser for Blind Veterans UK, says: “At previous Murder Mystery dinners, guests have always embraced the opportunity to get dressed up and lose themselves in their characters. Selecting the award for best dressed has never been an easy task.

Tickets for Troops (TFT) in a nutshell

Tickets For Troops is a military charity founded in 2009 that solicits ticket donations for a variety of music, theatre, sporting and cultural events and then distributes them to service personnel so that they can enjoy a little bit of quality time with their loved ones when they aren’t busy selflessly deployed on exercise, operations or other duties.
Who is TFT for? All regular and reserve personnel currently serving in the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and anyone who has been medically discharged or war widowed since 2001.

Forces TV launches on Freeview with host of new content

This October, Forces TV, the home of entertainment and military life, releases a host of new programmes, to mark its launch on Freeview channel 96. The new schedule will combine Forces TV’s unique blend of military and action-themed drama, comedy and factual programming, with news about UK Forces.
Programmes will include: new, exclusive and powerful behind-the-scenes military documentaries Warrior Women: Making US Marines and In Kabul: Britain’s Military in Afghanistan. Cult classics Knight Rider and Street Hawk return to our screens and military favourites including Hogan’s Heroes and Goodnight Sweetheart.

Fundraising Sailing Event Goes From Strength To Strength

The seventh annual Reginald Fessenden Challenge, held at the RAF Yacht Club Hamble, was the most successful yet with the biggest number of participants ever raising nearly £15,000 for the Association.

Taking part were 8 crews from maritime organisations and 6 NFA beneficiaries – including Royal Marines from the Termoli Troop Rehabilitation Unit at 40 Commando enjoying a welcome break from their daily routine – who were split between two boats, one of which came first in the competition and the other last.

Finchale bids farewell to BBC’s Inspector George Gently

You would not expect to find a film set in rural Pity Me, Durham, but that’s exactly what staff and tenants at local charity, Finchale, have seen when they have been coming to work over the past few months.

It’s been lights, camera, action as film producers of the hit BBC series North East crime drama, Inspector George Gently, completely transformed Pity Me based charity, Finchale, turning the former 1940’s Roadhouse and more recently Finchale Training College into a 1970’s Police Station.

Wirral veteran takes centre stage

Wirral veteran, Alison Williams (41), has become the latest cover star of the Combat Stress spring magazine after the leading veterans’ mental health charity supported her to regain her confidence and rediscover her voice.

Alison, who served in the Royal Air Force for 13 years, was chosen to join Gareth Malone’s Invictus Choir in 2016 and performed at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida last May.
