Soldiering On Awards announces House of Lords event for 2017 finalists

The Soldiering On Awards will honour the 2017 finalists at the House of Lords on Thursday 9th February. Hosted by General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL with the charity’s patron, the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC, in attendance, the evening celebrates the achievements of all of those who have been chosen as finalists by the Award’s Independent Judges Panel. It is with delight the charity welcomes new Cobseo Chairman, General Sir John McColl KBE CBE DSO, VCDS, to his first Soldiering On Awards event.

Silver Birch is a production for all the family (aged 8+) about courage, aspiration and aiming high.

New Forces in Mind Trust award: King’s College London to compare the offending behaviour, mental health and welfare needs of UK veterans with those of the general population

A grant of £94,779 has been awarded to King’s College London (KCL), for a 12-month study into offending behaviour, mental health and the welfare needs of ex-Service personnel entering the criminal justice system, and to compare this to general population offenders.

Although the majority of those leaving the armed forces successfully transition into military life, a minority have a bleaker outlook and find themselves involved in the Criminal Justice System (CJS), sometimes as a result of health, behavioural and social problems. Until now, there has been limited opportunity to explore the nature and needs of veterans in the CJS and to directly compare with offenders who have not served in the military.

‘Champion of Champions’ Paddy Doyle to complete 550th record

Paddy Doyle, multi Guinness World Record Holder and a Royal British Legion beneficiary, is on target to reach his record 550th physical fitness challenge.

Currently the ‘Champion of Champions’ World Record title holder for the most fitness endurance records in one year, Paddy is now on target to achieve another historic milestone by reaching his 550th documented feat which will take place at The Royal British Legion Club in Berkswell, Solihull at 12pm on 12th February.

Worthing-based charity, The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH), is calling on local people to join their Worthing 10k running team, and help raise vital funds for disabled ex-Servicemen and women.
The Worthing 10k is one of the largest and friendliest running events in the south east, welcoming runners of all abilities to the flat seafront course on Sunday 4 June.

The Soldiering On Awards is delighted to announce that BBC radio presenter Jeremy Vine and television journalist Angela Rippon OBE will host the 2017 Soldiering On Awards.

“This will be Jeremy’s second time and Angela’s first time to host the awards night,” said Chairman Wing Commander Tal Lambert MBE.
