Birmingham International Tattoo raises £101,000 for local veterans’ charity

Birmingham International Tattoo, Britain’s biggest annual indoor military event, has reached a magnificent total of £101,000 for local veterans’ charity, The Royal Star & Garter Homes. The event, which features over 1,250 performers from across the Services, has been supporting the Charity for the past ten years. All money raised goes towards providing award-winning specialist care for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia at the Charity’s Solihull Home, located only a few miles from where the Tattoo is held each year.

Three Substantial Grants Are Awarded to the NFA

The NFA were thrilled to receive three substantial grants from LIBOR, ABF The Soldiers Charity and Seafarers UK over the past fortnight. Over the next three years, the Association will receive a total of £294,000 in funding from LIBOR. This, combined with this year’s grants of £65,000 from ABF The Soldiers Charity and £5925 from Seafarers, will contribute hugely towards the work we do over the coming years.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity supports Army Widows Association Respite Weekend

Our charity has awarded the Army Widows’ Association a £24,000 grant. This will go towards supporting their AGM Respite Weekends and continuing the excellent work they do. The Army Widows’ Association was formed in 2004 and offers comfort, support, and friendship to the widows and widowers of service men and women.

All the members of the Army Widows’ Association have lost their husbands, wives, or partners, in varying circumstances, and are given support and help in whichever terms they need.

£2.5 million for Poppy Factory Renovation

The Treasury will be awarding The Poppy Factory £2.5 million to support the renovation of our factory. This funding is being announced by the Chancellor in the budget on Wednesday 22 November 2017.

Chief Executive of The Poppy Factory Deirdre Mills said:

“We are delighted that we can begin the process of transforming our factory into an accessible, inclusive and educational space for the disabled veterans who work here and for the wider local community. Our employment service helps get veterans with mental and physical health conditions back into work and as such helps restore financial independence and make a positive difference to veterans’ lives.”

Treasury awards RAF Benevolent Fund £1m to support serving RAF personnel

The RAF Benevolent Fund is delighted to announce our bid for £1m funding from the LIBOR fund has been approved by the Chancellor.

This grant will enable the Fund to respond to the needs of the serving RAF and their families by providing additional facilities and services on RAF stations to enable greater social engagement, better relationships and the provision of welfare facilities.

The Government’s decision was announced today during the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s autumn budget statement in the House of Commons.

Britain’s most seriously injured Veterans to be supported by Help for Heroes after Government awards £1.5 million Libor grant

In the last-ever tranche of Libor grants, Help for Heroes has been awarded £1.5 million to improve the level of care given to Britain’s most severely wounded and injured Veterans who experience the greatest challenges and highest levels of social exclusion.

Many have complex injuries including multiple limb loss, severe brain injuries and serious mental health conditions which means they will require specialist support through a complex care pathway for the remainder of their lives.

Help for Heroes and The Prince’s Trust Team programme

Since 2010, Help for Heroes has committed £1,032,846 to enable wounded, injured and sick tri-Service personnel and Veterans to participate in fully funded and bespoke secondments with The Prince’s Trust Team programme.

For veteran Tracy, whose life changed completely when she had a heart attack and stroke at just 35 years old, it enabled her to find renewed purpose.
