Now into its 8th year the Soldiering On Awards are delighted to announce Nominations are Open for members of the armed forces community and the general public to put forward the people, teams, charities and businesses they would like to see recognised in the prestigious 2018 Soldiering On Awards. We are delighted to announce our new partnership with X-Forces to bring you three new business awards. All former members of the Armed Forces Community are eligible for nomination in the business awards categories.

Innovative projects required for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity’s ‘Helping Hands’ programme

The RNRMC’s ‘Helping Hands’ programme, which is a new prevention and early intervention initiative, is looking for charitable projects that recruit volunteers to provide support, friendship and practical help for naval service beneficiaries.

Made available through Treasury Libor funds, ‘Helping Hands’ is a programme that financially supports charities that can demonstrate the effective deployment of volunteers within their respective groups.

The RNRMC are searching for innovative ideas that will have a positive impact on naval service beneficiaries lives.

Royal Ascot supports The Armed Forces for the fifth year

This year, the unofficial Armed Forces Day at Ascot Racecourse took place on the Friday, 23rd June. Military stewards collected for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity as well as The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and The RAF Benevolent Fund.

Supported by the Trustees of Ascot Racecourse, there were two-for-one tickets available to the Armed Forces and their guests, which included exclusive access to the Armed Forces bar and lounge. Proving to be a popular event, an impressive 2,650 tickets were sold!

Media Invitation – Passchendaele Parade to provide a poignant reminder

Thousands of people from across the country are set to descend on the town of Crieff this Sunday (30th July) ahead of a poignant parade and service to mark the 100-year commemoration of the Battle of Passchendaele – a conflict that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Allied soldiers.

The national event, which will launch the wider ‘Crieff Remembers’ fortnight and is being supported by Armed Forces charity Legion Scotland, will begin at 10:30am with a parade through the town featuring more than 150 veterans along with serving soldiers from The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The official launch took place at a recent reception held at MoD Main Building, Whitehall. It was sponsored by Thales UK and had Awards Patron the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC, Deputy Leader of the House of Lords and Minister of State for Defence in attendance.

Blind veteran from Hampshire wins prestigious Holman Prize

A blind veteran from Hampshire who was invited to compete in the inaugural Holman Prize has emerged victorious as one of the three winners.

Penny Melville-Brown OBE, from Fareham, was selected as one of the 11 finalists from over 200 original entries. Run by the San Francisco Lighthouse organisation, the three winners will be awarded $25,000 to achieve their ambitions. Penny’s goal is to cook across six continents with her online Baking Project, Baking Blind. The two other winners are Ahmet Ustunel and Ojok Simon from the United States and Uganda respectively. Ustunel is planning on completing a solo kayak from Europe to Asia, while Simon is aiming to build a blind-led social enterprise for beekeepers.
