‘We will remember them’ Honouring our UK Armed Forces and Civilians who served their country in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf Region

The Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial will be unveiled on Thursday 9th March.

The service will commemorate the UK Armed Forces and British citizens who volunteered during these conflicts across government, non-government and charity organisations.

Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity donates £20,000 to Fisher House

Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families, has received a fantastic donation from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Fisher House was built on-site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which is home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, in June 2013. Its mission is to provide free, comfortable accommodation for the families of wounded and ill troops and veterans. It has 18 en-suite bedrooms and guests can stay for as long as they need to; Fisher House’s longest resident was there for 18 months whilst her husband was in hospital.

Blind veteran from Fareham competing for the prestigious Holman Prize

A blind veteran from Fareham, Hampshire has been invited to compete in the inaugural Holman Prize, a $25,000 prize that will enable the winner to fulfil a life ambition.

Penny Melville-Brown OBE, has been invited to compete for the prize as a result of the profile she has built for herself across the internet and social media. If victorious, she hopes to take her baking project, Baking Blind, global. She says: “My adventure is all about food, because it delights me! It’s also a universal language with the power to bring us all together.”

The Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) appointed Allan Thomson as new Chairman

The Defence Medical Welfare Service is delighted to announce that Brigadier (Ret’d) Allan Thomson MSc MBA FIET CEng has taken over as the Chairman of Trustees from Major General (Ret’d) John Stokoe CB CBE, on 1.3.2017.

On speaking of his appointment, Allan Thomson said: “I am delighted to have been appointed the Chair of the Defence Medical Welfare Services to succeed John Stokoe. I am looking forward to bringing my business experience and skills to such a dynamic charity.
