OA Shares Weekly Career Advice Across BFBS Radio

Officers’ Association (OA) Career Consultants will give employment and transition advice to Service Personnel on Armed Forces radio.

Every week, Chris Kaye, a presenter on the radio station for Catterick Garrison, will discuss with an OA Career Consultant a different aspect of starting a new career after leaving the Armed Forces. Upcoming topics include coping with the challenge of transition; preparing for interviews and networking. The interview will then be shared across the whole British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) network.

Applications open for 2018 Media Course at the Forces Media Academy

The Forces Media Academy is inviting applications from service leavers, veterans, and reservists to embark on a free one-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course.

The Academy, which is part of the Services Sound & Vision Corporation (SSVC), provides 15 ex-service personnel per year with the training, experience and qualifications they need to forge successful careers in the media, whether videography, digital, TV or radio.

OA Helps Service Leavers with Employment Symposium

On Tuesday 12th December, the OA held a national employment Symposium at Deloitte’s London headquarters.

Former and serving officers in the Armed Forces attended to gain insight into different sectors and industries, as well as key tips for a successful transition into civilian employment. The main talks were live streamed via social media, and people watched from across the UK and abroad, including Kuwait.

Escape the City – a leading global career change consultancy, which helps people find a career they love – gave the key note speech.

Wiltshire Based Veteran Leads New Campaign to Highlight OA’s Work

Bryony Fuller, one of the first female officers to graduate from RAF College Cranwell, is leading a new campaign encouraging Service leavers and their dependants to contact the OA for assistance should they need advice or financial help.

The Wiltshire based former officer broke her neck, back and spinal cord after she fell down the stairs, an accident that left her paralysed on the floor for 30 hours. Bryony spent 12 weeks in the Intensive Care Unit followed by nine months recovering on a spinal injury ward.

Tell me about your Service history
I joined the Royal Navy in November 2014, and became a Warfare Officer. I left as a Sub Lieutenant in October 2017.

What is the Forces Media Academy?
The Academy is for Service leavers and veterans wanting to work in the media, including television, film, radio, digital and marketing. It launched in September 2017 and offers a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Creative Media Production.

Memorandum of Understanding to serve military community

Today (29 November 2017), the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) and Veterans First Point (V1P) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with the aim to improve collaboration between the two organisations and to better serve the Military community in Scotland.

DMWS and V1P’s cause complements each other; both organisations focus on improving the health and well-being of veterans and their families.
