In 2016-17, the OA Employment Team helped 4,782 officers – a 7% increase from the previous year. In addition, 1,757 new job seekers registered with the OA, an increase of 10% from the year before. The support included 780 career consultations, providing impartial and practical advice, and 1,532 people attended OA networking events.

Read moreToday, marathon man Corporal Jon Ward has completed his 100th official marathon in Gravesend, Kent, to mark the Royal Air Force centenary and support the RAF’s leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Since his challenge began, Jon, who is based at RAF Lossiemouth, has gone through seven pairs of trainers, racked up more than 374 hours of race running in 18 different countries and shaved more than two hours off his finish time.

Among the pilots taking off from Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, was Second World War Spitfire pilot Allan Scott, watched by another former RAF Second World War Spitfire pilot, Mary Ellis.
Known as a flying ace, 96-year-old Squadron Leader Allan Scott DFM returned to Biggin Hill, where he was posted in 1941 aged just 19 with 124 Squadron.

The provision of good quality living accommodation for service personnel and their families is an important priority for the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
The MOD’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) manages around 50,000 properties in the UK including planning targeted improvement programmes and planning future requirements. On behalf of the DIO, CarillionAmey, manages a comprehensive maintenance service; the allocation of properties; SFA furniture; conducting move in and move out appointments; and the provision of improvements.
On 1st April 2018, the RAF will celebrate 100 years since its formation. The Royal Star & Garter Homes, a Charity that provides specialist care for veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia, has been privileged to care for many RAF veterans in its 102-year history. Once such resident is Second World War Spitfire pilot Phillip Johnson. To commemorate the RAF centenary, here we share his incredible story.
Phillip joined the RAF on his 18th birthday and underwent the demanding Spitfire pilot training in the UK, Africa and Egypt. Once his training was complete Phillip was flown to Malta and joined 185 Squadron.
