Blind veteran from Hampshire meets The Countess of Wessex at military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Hampshire who has received vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, has met The Countess of Wessex, who this year became the charity’s Patron.

Lewis Trinder, 92 and from Aldershot, met Her Royal Highness at the charity’s show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The garden, titled ‘It’s all about community’, was one of three show gardens to receive a prestigious gold medal.

HRH Prince Harry Hosts The NFA Garden Party

On Tuesday 30 May 2,342 wounded and injured servicemen, veterans and their partners/carers came together to enjoy an exceptional afternoon at Buckingham Palace.

Attended by representatives from every campaign since the Second World War, every Arm and Service of the British Military, the Merchant Navy and most military charities, this was a wonderful gathering of old and new friends.

The Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch 2017 tops £189,000

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is delighted to announce that this year’s Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch has raised an astounding £189,000. All the money raised will go directly to helping soldiers and veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families, and need support from the Army’s National Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

On May 16, together with Lord Smith of Kelvin KT CH (on behalf or Baroness Emerton DBE DL), the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) hosted a reception in the House of Lords to update key peers from Defence, Health and Policing about the organisation. In the Role of Royal Patron of DMWS Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex, GCVO attended as a key advocate of the Charity’s work.

The Duke of York attends Broughton House Centenary Service

The Duke of York has attended a service which celebrated the centenary of Broughton House, the Salford home for ex-servicemen and women.

The Duke attended the service at Manchester Cathedral in his role as patron of Broughton House, and read a lesson from the Gospel of St Matthew.

More than 800 people from across the region were at the event, including Warren Smith, the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, civic dignitaries and representatives from the Ministry of Defence and service charities.

On Thursday 23 March, to mark the uniquely important role The Defence Medical Welfare Service plays in our society, they were delighted to welcome their Patron, Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex GCVO, The Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Nick Carter KCB CBE DSO ADC Gen and The Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mr Nigel Atkinson to the Charity’s Headquarters in Andover. The visit provided the perfect platform for highlighting the successes of the work undertaken and promoted the fantastic welfare support carried out every day. This is an organisation which is leading the way in professionalising the welfare space and which delivers an impact disproportionate to its size.

Welfare Officers from the Defence Medical Welfare Service join Armed Forces Colleagues and Civilian members of staff in Iraq and Afghanistan memorial unveiling

Our nation owes much to the men and women of its Armed Forces who give so much to defend our values and way of life. The conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have highlighted these sacrifices. Today, the unveiling of a new memorial in Victoria Embankment Gardens, Westminster by Her Majesty The Queen, honours both the UK Armed Forces and civilians who served their country in the Gulf region from 1990 – 2015.
