Naval charity donates £20,000 to help disabled veterans

The Worthing-based Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) has been awarded a grant of £20,000 from The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Greenwich Hospital.

The grant is towards the costs of delivering a tailored rehabilitation programme to disabled Royal Navy and Royal Marines Veterans and their dependants. The rehab services included in the grant are: Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social and Recreational activities, Neuropsychologist, Chaplaincy and Mini-Ambulance service.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is named as one of the UK’s most trusted charities

In the latest Third Sector Charity Brand Index (CBI), which gauges public awareness of the charity sector, our Charity, has come top in a number of categories. The Charity was ranked number one for ‘using its money well’, and for ‘delivering on its promise’ – to support soldiers, veterans and their immediate families – out of the top 154 charities in the UK.

Update from the Forces Welfare Media Team

SSVC’s Forces Welfare Media Team continues to feature the work of Cobseo and Veterans Scotland members, Armed Forces Covenant-funded projects and other initiatives that are helping to deliver the promises within the Covenant. In the run-up to Christmas, Edinburgh reporter Dave McCann filmed with a forces spouse being helped to set up her own business by Women’s Enterprise Scotland.

Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity CEO Robert Robson has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours

Robert joined the RNRMC in September 2008 as Chief Executive Officer, a move which he says brought him back “home”, having previously served as a warfare officer in the Royal Navy in the 1980s. After a 20 year “interim” stint with Barclays, which took him all over the UK and Europe, he took the helm of the Charity at the beginning of the voyage of discovery that awaited.

Lord West to Highlight State of UK Maritime Sector at Seafarers UK Centenary Dinner

On 1 January 2017 the leading maritime charity, Seafarers UK, celebrated the start of its Centenary Year. To mark this anniversary, Seafarers UK is holding a number of special Centenary events around the UK during 2017, in Liverpool, Bristol, Glasgow and London.

On 28 March, exactly 100 years to the day since the first meeting was held in 1917 in the City of London to discuss the formation of the charity (previously known as King George’s Fund for Sailors), Seafarers UK will hold a Centenary Celebration Dinner at Guildhall.
