14th June 2018: Networking Group – The Porffor Group – Cardiff

The Porffor Group are a Cardiff based networking group for serving and ex-Navy, Army and Air Force Service men and women (including any international colleagues) who live locally. The aim is to facilitate opportunities for individuals to meet up with old friends and / or expand local contacts via regular events.

The group was founded by John Solosy, a Chartered Financial Planner who previously served as an Army Major.

30th Inter-Services Triathlon brings top athletes together to compete for the coveted Team Cup.

Organised this year by the Royal Navy Triathlon Association, the Army, Navy and RAF will compete at the annual event, taking place on 25th July 2018. There are individual and team categories, including Male, Female and Veteran. In addition, the Fire, Police and Prison Service will each enter guest teams.

OA Sponsored Navy Cricket Team has Good Start to Season

The Royal Navy Women’s Cricket Club (RNWCC) was runner-up in its first tournament of the year.

The cricket team, sponsored by the OA, recently competed in the Watsonian Cricket Festival, in Edinburgh. The friendly competition was the first outdoor cricket fixture this season for all clubs involved. The weather was unusually fine, and it was claimed to be one of the biggest ladies’ sporting events in Scotland for the year so far. The team got through to the final but lost to the Army.

Legion care home residents welcome donated pots and plants

Apta and Jersey Plants Direct donate plants and pots to The Royal British Legion’s six care homes for residents to enjoy this summer

Residents of The Royal British Legion’s six award-winning care homes, four of which include specialist dementia care wings, have taken delivery of new plants and pots donated by Apta and Jersey Plants Direct, for their enjoyment this summer.

Dunkirk Memorial House in Taunton, Galanos House in Warwickshire, Halsey House in Norfolk, Lister House in Ripon, Mais House in East Sussex, and Maurice House in Kent have all gratefully welcomed the horticultural gifts, which include glazed poppy pots, geraniums, begonias, petunias, and impatiens.

Collector’s hub, The Koin Club has announced it will be supporting Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, through the sale of the War Poppy Collection.

The Koin Club is a dedicated collector’s hub for officially licensed commemorative coins in the UK. The Koin Club sells a range of monthly subscriptions and one-off collectable items for a number of fanbases, including Arsenal FC, Marvel and Disney.

The War Poppy Collection, which features artwork by leading War Poppy Artist, Jacqueline Hurley, is available from £9.99 per month. Through the partnership, 10% of each sale will be donated to help fund the vital work Combat Stress does to help former service men and women with mental health problems.

Gallantry Art partners with veterans’ mental health charity

Gallantry Art has announced it will be supporting veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress through the sale of artwork on its online gallery.

The gallery, that exclusively sells artwork created by both serving personnel and former servicemen and women, will donate 10% of profits to Combat Stress. This donation will support the work the charity does to help former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Founded by war widow Nikki Scott in 2010, Scotty’s Little Soldiers supports children across the UK who have lost a parent while serving in the Armed Forces. The charity was set up in memory of Nikki’s husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott, after he was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

Cobseo Housing Cluster wins the FiMT Working Together Award at the Soldier on Awards

The Cobseo Housing Cluster received the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) Working Together Award at the Soldiering on Awards on Friday 20th April, at a special ceremony at Westminster Bridge Park Plaza.

The Cluster is a combination of 30 veterans’ housing organizations and charities formed to provide veteran specific housing and create an integrated veterans’ housing sector, with clear pathways for ex-Service personnel and their families in housing need to move into permanent homes.
