Upcoming dates of RBLI’s employment support programme for veterans

Royal British Legion Industries’ LifeWorks programme is a series of successful employment support courses designed to help unemployed Armed Forces Veterans into work. It is available to any Veteran, of any rank and from any background, regardless of how long ago they served. It aims to help them gain sustained employment and rebuild their lives following their service by giving them the enhanced CV and interview skills needed for finding work in civilian life. Those who attend a course will receive 12 months of remote ‘reachback’ support to help them with their job search.

Local charity to provide accommodation, catering and transport to support leading house builder Persimmon

Finchale welcomes its first cohort of veterans this week, who will be taking advantage of its vast accommodation, catering and transport facilities as part of a wider “Combat to Construction” project that will see 180 individuals supported throughout 2017.

The Combat to Construction Programme is an initiative from leading house builder Persimmon Homes, which aims to deliver jobs by re-training former military personnel to become bricklayers and joiners.

New trauma service for severely injured veterans

NHS England, together with the MOD, BLESMA, Blind Veterans UK and Style for Soldiers, has recently launched the veterans trauma network, which aims to provide specialist care for patients with service related traumatic injuries. The network has been informed by feedback from veterans, their families and GPs who have requested both clinical assurance on the advice and excellence of care and a supportive ‘safety net’ to meet the ongoing health needs of injured military personnel transitioning out of the service and veterans.

2017 New Year’s Honour For NFA Entertainments Officer

We are delighted that our Entertainments Officer Dougie Squires was recently awarded the MVO for his services to choreography and stage direction of royal pageants. Dougie arranges the entertainment at our annual Christmas Tea Party at St. James’s Palace and is well known for his work in television from the mid-1950s.
