The Army’s National Charity is delighted to convey our congratulations to Breda Detachment (Royal Artillery) of F Company 2nd Battalion, NI Army Cadet Force on winning this year’s Revision Cadet Challenge.
On Friday 13 October, the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Andrew Gowan, presented the team with their awards at a ceremony in Lisburn. Guests at the ceremony also included Brigadier Mike Murdoch, Chief Executive of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association Northern Ireland, and ABF staff from London HQ and regional offices.
During the past year, the cadets took part in a number of fundraising events for our charity, including a daredevil abseil from the roof of Belfast’s iconic Europa Hotel, which raised over £1,300 towards our work. They also collected 20p pieces in Smartie tubes, ran a stall in Bangor’s Bloomfield Shopping Centre and acted as “Meet & Greet” staff at our 2023 Royal Tribute Concert in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. During the concert, the cadets handed out programmes and collected donations of over £800. Their amazing final fundraising total across all these activities exceeded £2,500.
Detachment Commander, SSI Stephen Keating from our charity’s Northern Ireland Office, said:
“The cadets have done an outstanding job and have enjoyed every minute of fundraising for the Army’s National Charity. They are already planning to defend their title in 2024!”
The Revision Cadet Challenge is a UK-wide competition held every year by our charity to recognise those who raise funds towards our work for soldiers, veterans and their families.
