A joint statement from Alex Spofforth, Chairman of Trustees, and Lee Holloway, CEO, of Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund (formerly the Officers’ Association)
After careful consideration, the Board of Trustees has decided in principle to close the Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund, subject to the necessary legal formalities including Privy Council consent. It’s expected that the planned closure will take place over several months.
The Trustees consider this decision to be in the best interests of the former officers and their families who we currently support, and has been reached in a timely manner, to ensure that the charity’s funds are maximised for their intended use.
We are rightly proud of the fact that we have been supporting Officers and their families for over a hundred years and that we are the only charity in the UK that represents former officers, their families, and dependants, regardless of their commissioning into the Royal Navy, the Army, or the Royal Air Force.
The Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund is in current discussions with military charities in relation to redistribution of funds and the ongoing support of our beneficiaries in the years to come. This will ensure that our vision and work – to ensure a secure and sustainable future for our former officers and their families – will continue for many years to come through a strong network of military charities.
