Forces charity Mission Motorsport builds a Scalextric replica of Goodwood Circuit to raise awareness of its work for ex-service personnel.
Mission Motorsport has created a huge working replica of the Goodwood motor circuit in Scalextric form – and the public can race on it.
The 7m x 7m Scalextric layout will tour events around the country from early 2024 with the ambition to increase public awareness of the charity’s work, support fundraising activities and build veteran engagement.
Through its network of veteran beneficiaries and with the help of famous British and most loved slot racing brand, Scalextric, the huge track has been developed as a mobile display with the aim to recreate as far as possible the experience of racing on the real Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex, famous for its exciting historic car races. With a lap distance of 30m (99ft.) the Mission Motorsport track is capable of running races for ten or more cars at the same time thanks to digital control technology. There’s even the capacity to have driver changes at pitstops.
Key features of the real Goodwood circuit, such as the chicane, famous overtaking spots and historic buildings, have been recreated in 1/32 scale using Scalextric track and accessories, enhanced with landscaping and bespoke model buildings by Slots Track Scenics and Magnetic Racing, both specialist slot car modelling companies based in the UK.
The first chance the public have to try the new circuit is on 7 January during the Bicester Scramble. The Scramble takes place at Bicester Heritage, a former airbase in Oxfordshire, now a growing attraction for car lovers thanks to the many car restoration and preparation businesses based there. The Mission Motorsport Scalextric Goodwood track will be hosted at the event by Hagerty insurance who will provide use of its iconic Clubhouse at Bicester Heritage On the day, the charity aims to bring real racers, veterans and slot car fans who fancy their chances together for races throughout the day.
Tickets for the event are available in advance from bicesterheritage.co.uk/events.
Dates and locations for future outings for the track will be announced early in the new year.
