RAFA Rides comes to RAF Marham

For the first time in its history, the Royal Air Forces Association’s RAFA Rides season will kick off with a unique cycling event at RAF Marham

Taking place on Sunday 2 June, RAFA Rides Marham, a partnership between RAF Marham and the Association, the charity that supports the RAF community, is the only major cycling event in the UK that takes cyclists down the runway of an operational fast jet station.

RAFA Rides Marham will take place entirely inside the wire, and with route options of 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles, covering the main runway, taxiways and the perimeter track of the airfield, the ride has something for riders of all abilities.

RAF Marham Station Commander, Group Captain Fred Wigglesworth, said:

“We look forward to hosting this exciting event, with the rare opportunity to cycle around our base and down the main runway. The RAF Association brings people together and provides great support, so we’re proud to be involved in RAFA Rides 2024.”

Rachel Huxford, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the RAF Association, said:

“RAFA Rides not only fosters a deep sense of connection between riders, but it also helps people to improve their overall physical and mental wellbeing by encouraging them to invest in their health and fitness, all whilst raising money to support the Association’s vital welfare work.

“Last year over 1,000 cyclists took part in our flagship event in Rutland and around the globe, raising over £110,000. We’re looking forward to welcoming more riders than ever in 2024 as we continue to grow the event, providing even more ways for people to be part of this incredible global community.”

The entry fee for RAFA Rides Marham is £44.50, and includes a cycling jersey, multiple feed stations, electronic timing and results, mechanical and medical support and a beer and hot sandwich at the finish line.
