Royal Hospital Chelsea – Minibus Driver (part time)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Royal Hospital Chelsea as a Bank Minibus Driver. As part of the team, this person will undertake the driving of our minibus, primarily used for taking our Chelsea Pensioners to and from local hospital appointments.

This role is open to anyone who may want flexible, part time hours, including anyone who is already driving other vehicles. This role will usually consist of 1 day per week (8 hours), although there will be times when there will be the option to work additional hours, to cover periods of leave.

The principal duties include:

  • To drive In-Pensioners as required to and from appointments or social trips as coordinated by the Social Care Manager
  • To be responsible for the daily safety check of the vehicle, reporting any defects immediately and maintaining daily inspection logs.
  • To ensure that the gangways, entrances and exits of the vehicle are kept clear and are visible at all times.
  • To take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of passengers who are on, getting on or off the vehicle. This includes safe use of the vehicle tail lift, ensuring wheelchair users are safety secured within the vehicle and all other passengers are wearing a seatbelt.
  • At times, support In-Pensioners with providing an escort to appointments or by participating in In-Pensioner activities that involve the use of the vehicle.
  • To maintain a daily log of journeys undertaken.
  • To demonstrate and practice the principles of the Manual Handling Regulations and undertake annual updates.
  • To comply with the principles of the maintenance of hygiene and the control of infection.
  • At times, drive other Royal Hospital vehicles, such as the ‘buggy’ used on site to transport In-Pensioners
  • To drive safely at all times and in accordance with the law.
