Sporting Force – Funding and Grant Management Finance Officer

Purpose of the role to strengthen the financial sustainability of Sporting Force.

Tasks and responsibilities

Funding and grants management

  • Dealing with financial aspects of grant and project management, fundraising and donor reporting
  • Participating in Sporting Force’s project monitoring activities
  • Overseeing and reporting of programme deliverables
  • Supporting the financial management and reporting of the projects.
  • including responding to budget questions
  • Monitoring of Project Expenditure
  • Preparing monthly, mid-year and end-of-year financial reports for projects
  • Preparing and supporting audits
  • Monitor project payments and human resource allocation against approved budgets and funder requirements
  • Analysing and forecasting costs and budgets for on-going and future projects.

Funding and grants development

  • Keeping an up-to-date list and analysing future funding opportunities including corporate sponsors, foundations, etc
  • Screening funding opportunities for alignment with Sporting Force objectives and work
  • Developing project ideas and proposals with accurate budgets
  • Developing and implementing plans for new income streams
  • Ensuring opportunities for funding for the Armed Forces Community are proactively shared with VPPP members
  • Internal reporting and accountability
  • Preparation of documents for internal and external communication which give oversight of projects (including our annual report)
  • Identifying areas of organisational development to improve projects and grants management.
  • Collecting information for monitoring purposes

Finance Management

  • Asset Register management
  • Risk Register
  • Sage accounting – Purchase and Sales Ledger and bank reconciliation
  • Provide monthly Balance Sheet and Management accounts to the Trustee Board.
  • Maintain records and receipts
  • Monitor cash flow
  • Administer Payroll

EXPERIENCE

1. Experience of writing successful funding bids to trusts and other grant giving organisations

2. Experience of project development for bids, and tenders

3. Experience of fundraising

4. Experience of generating income from a range of sources

5. Experience of building and maintaining external relationships at senior level

6. The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

7. Excellent presentation and bid writing and tendering skills

8.  Knowledge of accounting software and competent user of Microsoft Office programmes.

9. able to develop and maintain good administrative systems

10. Ability to manage a busy and varied workload, to tight deadlines

11. Ability to assess information and produce objective reports

12. Interpersonal skills – Good communication skills, able to relate to a wide range of people from differing backgrounds

13. Organisational skills– plan, manage time and workload.

14. In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes.

15. Degree or equivalent or Level 4 Qualification in Business Management or Finance

17. Ability to work out of office hours when required

18. Ability to travel across the Region – North East and Yorkshire.

19. Full Driving Licence and Business use car insurance.

20. Attend meetings in London travelling solo by train and public transport.
