St David’s Day has been celebrated by residents at Royal Star & Garter.
Staff filled the Homes with daffodils and put up red dragon flags to commemorate the patron saint of Wales, on Wednesday 1 March.
Royal Star & Garter provides loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia, and has Homes in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe.
In Solihull, residents enjoyed activities which included daffodil-themed arts and crafts. They had roast lamb for lunch, which was followed by a karaoke session on a large-screen TV, with residents singing along to songs by Welsh legends including Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey.
In High Wycombe, residents took part in a range of Welsh-themed activities, including a quiz, word search and art and crafts. They also made Welsh cakes with staff, and enjoyed Moroccan lamb tagine for lunch.
In Surbiton, residents also tucked into a special St David’s Day menu, which included lamb and leeks.
Royal Star & Garter celebrates special days in the calendar such as Burns Night, Valentine’s Day, and UK patron saints’ days, as residents enjoy these traditions.
The charity is welcoming new residents in each of its Homes. For more information on this, or working for the charity, go to www.starandgarter.org/solihull, www.starandgarter.org/surbiton, or www.starandgarter.org/hw
