Chief Tech ‘Stan’ Winstanley set himself an ambitious challenge for 2021. He is running 10 km a day, every day this year. That is the equivalent of London to Edinburgh and back… three times!
Stan, an engineer at RAF Waddington, said:
“Anyone who knows me can testify that I am not naturally built for running, nor was I an advertisement for healthy living, especially before I started training. At 42 and getting too long in the tooth, this is a serious challenge.”
The challenge is going well, Stan has now completed eight months, covering 2,725.72 km (1,693.68 miles) of his 12 month, 3,650 km (2,265-mile) target. He continued:
“Some days have been harder than others, but I haven’t missed a day yet. I’d like to thank everyone who has donated money so far, their donations will go to two excellent causes.
“I have witnessed over my 24-year RAF career the support given by the RAF Association to the RAF family. Support is available whether you’re currently serving or you’re a veteran (regular or reservist), a spouse, partner, or other dependant. You never know, it maybe you that needs that help in the future.”
Stan is raising money for the RAF Association and Cancer Research UK, with donations being split 50/50. You can follow Stan’s progress or make a donation by visiting https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StephenWinstanley2
