Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for Veterans in the greatest need, has received £12,000 from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund to help promote independent living for ex-RAF servicemen and women. Alongside the housing Stoll provides, the charity offers a unique combination of health, wellbeing and employment support to vulnerable and disabled ex-Servicemen and women to help them live as independently as possible. Stoll will use the funding to support elderly and disabled Veterans and their dependents, enabling them to remain in the comfort of their own home. This includes providing domestic support such as helping with washing and cleaning.
Stoll Chairman, Air Commodore Andy Fryer, a former RAF Nimrod navigator who has seen action in the Falklands, Balkans and Afghanistan said: “We are hugely grateful to the RAF Benevolent Fund for their generous contribution which will enable us to provide vital support services to ex-RAF servicemen and women and allow them to live independently. We are proud of our strong links to the RAF and we are very pleased that we have been able to find a number of ex-RAF servicemen and women an affordable home to live in.”
Stoll is in possession of a fascinating book of poems and sketches by a number of well known individuals, including Rudyard Kipling’s original copy of a poem written by him when he was 18, about an RAF pilot. World War One was a subject close to Kipling’s heart as his son John Kipling went missing in action in 1915. Kipling had great difficulty accepting his son’s death, having played a major role in getting the chronically short-sighted John accepted for military service. Stoll’s founder Sir Oswald Stoll, put the book of poems together as a fundraising tool in 1916 when he was first setting up the charity, to gather support from the public.
Tomorrow on the 23rd June, Stoll will be hosting a garden party at the Stoll Mansions in Fulham to celebrate Armed Forces Day – an annual occasion to salute the work of the Armed Forces. The event will be attended by residents from Stoll’s four sites across London along with Veterans who Stoll has helped to find a home in the community.
