ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is pleased to award a £30,000 grant to the Spinal Injuries Association, to provide support for veterans who have sustained spinal cord injuries (SCI).
Our charity aims to provide soldiers, veterans and their families with the means to live independently and with dignity. The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) provides spinal cord injured people with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to manage their condition and live a fulfilled life after injury. Soldiers living with SCI are at risk of isolation, mental illness and life-threatening health complications.
The charity’s specialist regional support co-ordinators all live with spinal cord injury and two of their spinal cord injured staff members are ex-armed forces. Our grant will go towards SIA’s support network which provides a wide range of expert lifetime support to spinal cord injured veterans, their families and the healthcare professionals supporting them.
Mark Ridler, Director of Programmes, Spinal Injuries Association, said:
“Thank you so much to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for its fantastic support. The generous donation this year will play a key role in enabling us to support even more soldiers and veterans living with life-changing spinal cord injuries, including significant psychological and physical impacts. Everyone at SIA is incredibly grateful for this continued support.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added:
“We are proud and longstanding supporters of the team at SIA who do amazing work helping spinal cord-injured veterans and providing them with the very best treatment and support. Sustaining such complex injuries can have a devastating physical and psychological impact on a person’s quality of life. It is crucially important that we do all we can to give our injured veterans the best possible support.”
