Supporting Wounded Veterans – COVID-19 update

An update from Supporting Wounded Veterans regarding their services has been shared:

In light of the current lockdown, SWV continues to support veterans, albeit now remotely.
Our mentoring programme continues via skype and twenty-four veterans have just received new mentors in addition to the other eighty-five veterans who are currently being mentored.
We are also offering new online support, via our website, with services (some being run by veterans themselves) including:-
Veteran Support
During this time you can reach out to one of our Veteran Support networks for advice on lost wages, redundancies, pensions. It can also be a way to find other mental or physical health services
Pain Clinics
These will be starting up again soon. We will be hosting our regular pain clinics and conducting them online through weekly sessions.
Motivational Workshops
We are going to provide online sessions with a variety of motivational speakers and guests providing an opportunity for veterans to join and benefit from.
Wellbeing Sessions
Twice a week you can join a live class online that will help you relax and feel more resilient. In each class, one of our specialists will lead you through various techniques to reduce stress: guided relaxation, EFT, and more. Check the schedule to see what’s on for each week, and come chill out with us.
Fitness Classes
During these classes, you will be lead through various activities which you can do in your own home without any equipment.
Community Helps Volunteer Group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/688829558524887/ – set up by one of our committee members, and is a good forum to seek support from volunteers or to volunteer support
Our reserves policy should hold us in good stead during this challenging time. However, like all other charities in this sector, we also have had to cancel many fundraising events. This will have a big impact on our revenue but we hope to reinstate the events in the Autumn, circumstances permitting.
Our office is now closed, but our staff continue working from home and I would like to thank them all for navigating these challenging times very well, whilst they continue to support these veterans who need our help.
