The Veterans Charity Trustee announcement

The Veterans Charity is delighted to announce that Air Commodore Sonia Phythian OBE has joined its Board of Trustees.

Air Commodore Sonia Phythian OBE has been serving with the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service for 30 years. Her military career has exposed her to the full spectrum of global medical support to Defence. She has commanded on operations in Asia, Iraq and Afghanistan, and served overseas as the Medical Advisor to the Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas and Commander British Forces Cyprus during the COVID pandemic. She recently held the appointment of Head of the RAF Medical Services.

Air Commodore Phythian joins General (retd) Sir Bob Pascoe KCB MBE, Major General (retd) Rob Thomson CBE DSO, Lt Col (retd) Vaughan Kent-Payne, Mr Iain Henderson, Major (retd) Hume Jones and Captain Bill Holland.

The Veterans Charity board now has an incredible total of 214 years combined military service in addition to extensive experience across charity, corporate and policing and healthcare sectors

We are incredibly proud to welcome Sonia to our Board,” said Danny Greeno, CEO of The Veterans Charity. “Her deep understanding of the Armed Forces community and her obvious passion for supporting others will be tremendous assets to the charity .”

The Veterans Charity provides immediate needs assistance for essentials such as food,  utilities support, clothing and footwear, communications support, travel support, household items and even temporary emergency accommodation.

The charity is reporting a 60% rise in demand for its urgent support so far this year and supported more than 1200 cases in 2024 alone.
