Most people in the UK were born and lived during the reign of one Monarch, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – who was Patron of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity throughout her reign – and so have not seen a Coronation take place.
This will change on May 6 with the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla, and the auspicious and historic beginning of a new Carolean era for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
SSAFA, founded in 1885, is honoured to be one of two recipients – the other is the Royal Collection Trust – of proceeds from the sale of the Official Souvenir Programme celebrating the Coronation of Their Majesties.
Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory, the Controller of SSAFA, commented:
“It is an extraordinary privilege for SSAFA to be chosen by Their Majesties and we are very grateful. These funds will help SSAFA continue its life-changing and sometimes life-saving work, just as it has done for nearly 140 years.
“Support – including the gracious patronage of SSAFA of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for 70 years – from the Royal Family means an immense amount to me, to our volunteers, and our beneficiaries within with the Armed Forces family. In turn, it demonstrates the Royal Family’s commitment to our Armed Forces, past, present, and future.
“All at SSAFA give their heartiest congratulations to Their Majesties. Long live the King!”
The Official Souvenir Programme of the Coronation costs £10 and is available at the SSAFA Store here: ssafastore.org.uk/categories/coronation.
