‘Wings For Warriors’ is a UK registered charity, which gives wounded, injured or sick servicemen and women a future worth fighting for. Instead of a short term project or challenge, we provide our wounded warriors from all over the UK with the skills to achieve an exciting, rewarding and sustainable future for many years to come, as commercial air pilots. We rebuild confidence, capabilities and pride and return professionals to their communities as people to look up to instead of look after. Our project requires veterans to challenge themselves and places emphasis on physical, psychological and social development. Armed with skills and first rate professional training, veterans can re-build their own confidence, capability and pride at the same time as working towards recognised and highly regarded civilian qualifications. Their military skills of taking responsibility for others and coolness under pressure are vital parts of a pilot’s armoury.
The Charity is now seeking a new Chairman of Trustees to join the Board with senior experience of supporter engagement, and preferably with knowledge or experience of aviation; civil or military. The Chairman will help to further develop Wings For Warriors’ Charity’s profile, and the quality of its engagement with its supporters, ensuring the long term future of the Charity’s work. The successful candidate will bring experience of working in the Charity sector, preferably with military charities, at a senior level. As important as the relevant skills and experience is a commitment to the aims of Wings For Warriors and its values and an empathy with the people it supports. The estimated time commitment for this role is twelve days a year, but a willingness to share time and expertise is essential.
